Elijah & Skilliam have compiled a selection of 2016’s biggest grime tracks, with a CD release due out on Butterz.
Following on from pivotal moments like Skepta’s monumental Mercury Prize win and the genre’s unprecedented success outside of the UK, Butterz honchos Elijah & Skilliam present their second grime annual, cataloguing the biggest & best tracks from some of the most talented names in the scene.
Their Butterz label & clubnight platform, long tenure as Rinse FM tastemakers and dedication to the sound make the pair obvious choices to curate such a compilation, having offered a platform to burgeoning grime artists for many years now.
Grime 2016 features tracks from pioneering MCs including Wiley, Kano, Skepta and Dizzee, as well as fresher faces like Stormzy, Novelist, AJ Tracey and Mez. Productions come courtesy of grime originators like DaVinChe and Dread D alongside Swindle, Chase & Status, Sir Spyro, The Bug and Murlo. The pair had the following to say on the new CD:
“We wanted to follow up last year’s compilation to showcase current grime anthems from the big artists alongside new names like AJ Tracey, Mez, Jammz, Capo Lee, and Rocks Foe. The second disc is more producer focused with JD Reid, Sir Spyro, Dread D, Last Japan, Swindle etc taking the shine, giving you a different end of the music that you may not hear up and down clubs and festivals across the country just yet.”
