London-based label Junior Boy’s Own will release a commemorative Frankie Knuckles record, a year on from the house music star’s passing.
In celebration of Frankie Knuckles’ life and music, two of Junior Boy’s Own cornerstones acts, Underworld and Heller & Farley have joined forces with the Misterons to release a version of Knuckles’ seminal “Baby Wants To Ride”. Proceeds raised from the sale of the record will go direct to the Frankie Knuckles Fund (part of the Elton John AIDS Foundation), helping men at high risk of HIV in Africa as well as African communities in the UK, and African American communities in the U.S.
Rick Smith of Underworld said the following on the matter: “As the creator of house music we owe Frankie a huge debt. Karl and I have always seen Frankie as the source and, as Underworld, we’re always swimming in his river.”
