This week’s ‘Trainer of the Week’ is the Asics Gel-Kayano Trainer White/Fiery Red H403N-0123, a reissue of a classic 90’s runner appearing in one of the original colour-ways marking the 20th iteration of the silhouette and over 20 years of the Gel Kayano. The aggressively styled runner that originally released in 1993 features an exoskeletal eye-stay and rigid heel counter; ““The design inspiration came from stag beetle” stated Toshikazu Kayano, “his armor looks very protective and I strongly felt that is what all runners would want. On the other hand he is agile too. Who wouldn’t want both natures? Overall, I tried to make the shoe sharp like his pincers.”

The reissue of the Kayano remains faithful to the original 1993 construction featuring original technology applied to the first Gel Kayano: visible THETA GEL in the heel and porous P-GEL in the forefoot. The upper is mesh with Coolmax reinforced by synthetic suede, providing a feather weight running silhouette. The suede uppers and mesh panelling that sit above the classic gel cushioned sole unit are more premium than the materials applied to the upper of the first rendition of the iconic running silhouette, finished off with woven branding at the tongue.
