This week’s ‘Trainer of the Week’ is the Brooks Chariot Athletic in Grey/White. The Chariot from vintage running brand Brooks Heritage appears in Grey/White alongside the Brooks x Concepts ‘Merlot’ Chariot in Royal Blue/Navy Blue/Red Wolverine; which marks the first collaborative release from the vintage runner manufacturer, alongside the reissue of the iconic Chariot, turning heads in the process.
This Fall Brooks Heritage grace the shelves and stockrooms of Wellgosh for the first time with the Chariot collection. During the 1980s the Chariot was a staple silhouette for runners, gaining popularity through the groundbreaking optimal performance technology applied to the simply styled silhouette. At the time technology such as the diagonal roll-bar, moulded tri-layer insole, and solid rubber outsole was cutting edge and had never been seen before in the sportswear industry. However in the current market this level of performance technology is commonly seen in silhouettes worn casually instead of as performance runners; which is what makes the Chariot, thirty years later a perfect lifestyle silhouette delivering intense comfort.
The 1980s performance runner appears in a new colour-up for the Fall reissue appearing in a tonal blend of greys and white. The upper appears extravagantly simplistic; constructed from a sporty mesh vamp and premium suede panels finished in a tonal blend of athletic grey, medium grey and white. The luxury aesthetic is pursued with the application of a breathable perforated toe-box, waxed hiker cord laces, a soft-feel leather lining, tonal chevron sidewall branding, accented with a branded 3M reflective heel tab. Underneath the luxury uppers is all the original tooling from the original iteration, including: a moulded tri-layer cushioned insole, a wedged EVA midsole and a Diagonal Rollbar system for responsive pronation control, tied together with a grippy rubber outsole.
The Brooks Chariot Athletic in Grey/White RRP £74.95 is now available in store and online at Wellgosh alongside the Brooks x Concepts ‘Merlot’ Chariot in Royal Blue/Navy Blue/Red Wolverine RRP £100. Both these retro runners mark the arrival of Brooks Heritage at Wellgosh; don’t sleep on these 1980s archive reissues because they won’t stay on the shelves for long.
