This week’s ‘Trainer of the Week’ is the adidas Stan Smith in Night Navy/Dark Blue. The Stan Smith returned to retailers in January 2014 in its original build and colour-way updated for a contemporary market; adorned in premium materials. The icon of simplicity has since leant itself to a variety of colour-ways and constructions. The minimalist design of the Tennis icon allows it to be updated with fresh palettes and a range of new materials. The Night Navy/Dark Blue is assembled with a head turning denim textile upper for the latest offering in the iconic performance court shoe.
The adidas Stan Smith first released in 1973 as the first full leather performance court shoe. The classically styled tennis shoe made the transition from the court to the street, becoming a best selling Adidas sneaker in more recent years, until it was pulled from shelves in 2012. After a two year stint off the shelves, the classic silhouette returned backed with a worldwide campaign launching the Tennis model for a contemporary clientele whilst maintaining the minimalist aesthetic and technical substance behind the silhouette.
This Summer adidas Originals continue the innovative builds of the Stan Smith that followed the retro reissue in 2012 with the Night Navy/Dark Blue colour-up constructed with a denim textile upper. The go-to low-profile silhouette is arguably one of the most historically recognisable trainer silhouettes; through its perforated three stripe sidewall branding, illustrated tongue patch and ‘Stan Smith’ embossed heel decal. The upper on the latest rendition of the Stan Smith has a brand new premium aesthetic, decked in a dark denim, with a leather lining, tongue and heel tab, complete with a selvedge detail on the heel, adding to the premium denim look. Below a crisp white rubber cupsole sets off the rich tones of the upper.
