This week’s ‘Trainer of the Week’ is the Asics Gel Lyte III ‘Japanese Denim’ in Dark Grey/White, dropping alongside a more subdued Black/Black colour-up in the Gel Lyte III. The two iterations of the Gel Lyte III make up the Platinum and Platinum+ Tier ‘Okayama Denim’ Pack.
The ‘Okayama Denim’ Pack features two premium updated Gel Lyte III’s starting off the limited packs and iterations we are likely to see the Gel Lyte III appear in this year; marking the 25th anniversary of the iconic Asics silhouette. The Gel Lyte III originally released in 1990, made iconic by the split tongue construction. Since its initial release 25 years ago the retro runner has been re-appropriated as a progressive street ready style for sneaker-heads looking for a multi purpose trainer that offers style, comfort, versatility and durability.
For this limited edition trainer pack Asics tap into the rich culture of Japan. The two muted colour-ways that compose the Japanese Denim Pack have been constructed using a unique denim camouflage mix from the revered Nihon Menpu Mill in Okayama. The Okayama was one of the first Japanese Mills denim, Nihon Menpu’s hand crafted fabric adds a subtle elegance to the classic Gel Lyte III that any denim connoisseur will appreciate.
The Asics Gel Lyte III ‘Japanese Denim’ in Dark Grey/White is assembled from a unique camo, handcrafted denim blend, with premium tumbled luxury leather overlays at the toe-cap, sidewalls, eye-stay and heel appearing in a deep grey hue, with tonal laces. The premium upper is accented with white leather sidewall branding, shadowed with a vivid red underlay, red heel quarter branding, heel branding and mesh detailing at the heel. The denim motif is accentuated with a contrast denim top stitch around the heel panel. The subdued uppers are set off with a crisp white Gel Lyte midsole, with a tonal dark grey outsole, with a hit of vivid red at the arch of the foot.
