Trainer Of The Week | ADIDAS x MITA ZX8000

Each week we will be speaking to our friends at The Drop Date and will ask them to pick their “Trainer Of The Week” to feature in our newsletter. There are no other rules other than we have to feature a new style each week, this week The Drop Date have chosen the: ADIDAS x MITA ZX8000

“””Japan’s Mita Sneakers have a track record of delivering the goods when it comes to major brand collaborations, but the ADIDAS x MITA ZX8000 may just be their best to date.

As the final instalment of the Adidas Originals Japan Pack, which has so far seen a couple of wacky animal inspired makeups and a super-clean rework of the ZX500 OG by United Arrows, Mita have chosen to remix a favourite of ours, the ZX8000.

It’s been a good couple of months for the 8000 with Size? Reviving the original ’88 Aqua colourway.  At the time we were sure the aqua’s couldn’t be topped, but having seen Mita’s work in the flesh we may have to eat our words!

Whilst what they’ve done isn’t rocket science, applying the colourway from 1991′s definitive EQT Support to the shoe that preceded it as Adidas’s top-tier runner makes complete sense, as it’s taken classic elements of both iconic runners and combined them to superb effect – the result is a shoe that both looks and feels right on the money, with great build, quality and shape – and a colourway that’s already stood the test of time.

Adidas themselves did a similar ZX8000 a couple of years back in their Consortium Retro Runners pack, but you’ll have missed that one if you blinked as it was gone in seconds!  Mita’s version brings us colours and panel blocking that are more faithful to the EQT Support,  whilst retaining the premium feel the Consortium version had by using a similar lush suede and high quality mesh, swapping out the lightweight running feel for street-friendly durability””””
